I have an 88 Plymouth Colt Vista and the windows wont work. I looked for a blown fuse but couldn't find one. I opened the door panel and stole a power wire from a light in the door and put it to the window switch. Worked fine but when i tried to put one of the rear windows down, the fuse to the door light blew. That window is also slower operating than the rest. None of the window switches in the car work. My wife was driving the car one day after the windows quit and by habit she tried to operate the driver's window and it worked! But she was unable to put it back up... then it rained.... I had to open the door panel again and steal a power wire to get the window up. I then disconnected the switch until i find the problem. Summer's coming up and the windows need fixed. I could run a new power wire to the door but I would like to fix it right. It sounds to me like a fuse somewhere has blown, but I can't seem to find it!
Most likely, a wire in one of the door hinges has broken and gives you the occasional short. Find this wire. It's not much fun, but it must be done and it is least costly to do it yourself.Car Repair Talk's forum.
