2001 Civic LX Odd Electical Problem

I have a 2001 Civic LX and all of a sudden the radio went dead. The car seems to run fine but the power locks only work if the key is turned in the ignition, same with the dome light. Any ideas? Since these accessories all work off the same fuse, check your fuses. In addition to the familiar in-cab fusebox, you may have a second fusebox under the hood. If so, check that first. Have you added any accessiories that use power at your fuse box?

Like a CB that you got hooked into the power of your fuse box ect? I checked the fuse in the dash fuse box and it was ok. Wasn't sure which fuse it could be in the under the hood fuse box. Nothing has been added the only thing I use is a cell phone charger to the power outlet.

Thanks Look for a 10a, maybe 15a, fuse under the hood. If still unsure, check 'em all. Go to any parts store and git you a cheap test light unless you have 1 handy.

Turn the ignition on and on every fure there are 2 metal prongs on the top.I have included a picture below. of what i am talking about.

Turn the car to the on postion, and Connect your test light to a good ground on the car. then couch each side of the metal parts on the fuse, the test light should light up when you touch each side.

If you have 1 that it is only lighting up on 1 side, that is a bad fuse, replace it. Check all the fuses in the car. Ok foudn the blown fuse, it was labeled as BACKUP and was a 1.0 fuse. I took the spare and when I went to replace it, it arched and blew the spare. Just my luck. Should I disconnect the battery before replacing. I checked other fuses and put them back in and none arched.

Thanks, See? I knew we were on the right track. I believe this is the fuse that provides backup power to both your radio/clock and computer. You will have difficulty determining exactly what is wrong. If it were my car I would start by pulling out and disconnecting the radio, then trying a new 1a fuse. If it blows, try a 5a fuse. If this one blows, ouch! There may be something wrong with your computer circuitry.
