steering colmun sloppy wobbly along with gear selector

tilt wheel is wobbly and gear selector is hard to get in gear and will not hardly go in park when it does and you get out with truck running truck jumps into gear takes off by its self, auto matic 4x4 s- 10!! any suggestions or does whole steering column need replaced??
Mark!! I would suggest looking around the steering column to see if there are any bolts that became loose over time. I know with some cars that is a problem. Also there are s10 message boards on the net and if this is a common problem with those trucks they will know how to fix it. You need to pull the steering wheel. Then remove the lock ring that holds the locking slotted ring and horn contact.There are 4 bolts that hold the tilt portion of your column. Remove them one at a time, apply Loc-tite to threads and re-install. A couple of the bolts are hard to get to. If you take your time, it can be done without any major car surgery.Car Repair Talk's forum.
