Hi Everybody,
The question that I have is about a 1996 Lincoln 4-dr. The Electric Window Motor in the drivers door has taken an early retirement and has left me with a window all the way open in the rainy season. Are any of the other 4 electric motors in the other 3 doors interchangable with the one that has quit working. I have a chance to buy one at a boneyard but the car in question was hit real hard in the left front and the drivers door is rolled up like a ball of tinfoil. which leaves me with 3 other doors to choose from. So will any of the other electric motors interchange with the one in the drivers door? Thanks for your time. For the time being, you might want to swap one of the other motors on your car for the bad one. If this works, you can have all four windows closed (one permanently) and upi can take the bad one to the junkyard to ensure theirs matches yours. As a general rule, Ford/Lincoln/Mercury uses a different window motor for the front and back. The motors cannot be interchanged from side to side. The drive is mounted differently on the left side than the right. The rears are made slightly different. You may be able to bolt it to the door frame to make it work to close window though. It is such a pain that I would purchase one that fits and only have to dissamble one door and regulator. Hi:
You should make real certain that it is the power window motor before doing any changing. If your lincoln is equipted with the auto roll all the way down feature (as in the window automatically rolls all the way down when you hit the down switch), then it could very well be the relay/regulator for this feature. If the little black box goes bad, then your window will go down, but will not come back up. To quickly check this, you can bypass the relay box with a jumper wire. If the relay box is malfunctioning, then at least your window will go up
