96 Lumina electrical problem

Help, as soon as I turned the key the entire electrical system died. Thinking the battery was dead, I was gonna hook up a charger. Before I could about 5 minutes later the electrical was back on. As soon as I tried the key again the power died again. I know a little about cars, but I've never seen this before. Could it be the solenoid? I went ahead and hooked up the battery charger and the battery wasn't drawing any amps, so I assume it's fine. The worst part is not being able to drive it to a shop for repairs. Any clues? Thanks in advance for any help!!! Hi Kathy: your problem is related to a poor or bad connection, most likely either at the battery or at the starter.
