2004 Nissan Quest tachometer and electrical questions

I will describe the three items in sequence and have no idea whether they are related, what the cause of the problems are and whether I need to be concerned.

I went to pick up my new 2004 Quest, purchased new and I had not yet taken posession of (although paid for). This is a base model S and the dealer sent it to an aftermarket provider to install heated leather seats.

When we arrived at the dealer, they were closing the hood and mentioned that they put in a new battery since the old one was "dead" and they didn't want to just recharge it in chase there was a problem with it.

When I got in the car I noticed that the Tachomer needle (analog not digital readout) was pegged all the way off the scale to the RIGHT (indiating very high RPM) while we were sitting still. I asked the salesman, he called the manager who stepped on the gas, the tachometer moved, but in the reverse direction (to the left since it was already pegged to the right.

The manager suggested I leave the car there (not drive it home) and have the mechanic look at it on Monday (today) that perhaps the dead battery or replacing the battery affected it somehow. So I have a few questions that hpefully you can help me with:

1) Is the Tach read out electronic driven or cable to the needle?

2) What do you thing could cause this?

3) Could anything the seat installer have done caused this?

4) If the battery died and they first tried to jump/charge it and reversed polarity, or reversed polarity on the new battery could this have caused it? and if yes, and they fix the tach, is anything else electrical likely to be "fried". If yes, what can I do the check it or protect myself (There is a 3 year warranty)

Please help Thank you Hi;
