I am in need of some advice on what to do with an electrical issue happening to my car. I am going to paste a chain of events document that I have kept for symptoms that have happened since it started in June. It a little long but I hope it helps someone that knows what they are doing narrow it down!
Troubleshooting on ’95 Cutlass in order that they happened
Early June
1.ABS light started to come on after the first significant bump.
2.ABS light started to blink when turning the turn signal on.
3.Turn Signal began slowing down.
4.When turning turn signal on the radio would immediately short out. Would come on seconds later even if the signal would stay on.
5.Dash gauges especially the speedometer would fluctuate 2-4mph even though car was in cruise and GPS stayed steady at current speed. This usually wouldn’t stop until I shut the car off and turned it back on.
Was told by Autozone to try taking out the ABS fuse and see what happened. Signals were still slow and ABS light would faintly flash but the radio would no longer short out. These fuses remain out.
A few weeks later
1. Headlights and dash lights started to dim.
2. Replaced Alternator and was told original was bad. Fixed flickering dash and headlights but did not fix existing problem.
3. Occasionally when taking the car out of cruise, the cars check engine light will come on. The code has not been able to be read at Autozone or local auto shop because of OBD hybrid connector.
Late August
1.When weather cooled I noticed the turn signals were not as slow as when it was in the 90’s.
2.Decided to tinker with roll bar interior light. When touching a screwdriver to the positive end of the light bulb and the rest to the metal frame of the roll bar, the light will turn on. Side note…This light has never turned on.
3.Tried unplugging back light but the short problem does not go away.
Last couple weeks
1.Noticed when idling in drive the engine will very slightly putter in a non uniform manner.
2.Noticed 9/12 that when the car idle putters, the abs light will slightly flicker.
Current Lingering Problems
1.ABS light still will flash with turn signal.
2.80% of the time the turn signal will flash much slower than normal.
3.ABS fuses are currently still removed because of wanting the radio to not short out.
4.Also everything that started in “Late August” up to present.
HELP! I would love to keep this car and not have to get rid of it! Is there any after market equipment installed? What is the charging system voltage when things are acting goofy? You may have to get the modules scanned for the ABS and PCM to see if there are any codes being stored. If there are codes, it might give you some more clues to go on.Car Repair Talk's forum.
