just recently bought the car.
the power locks were unplugged when i bought it and i plugged them in and it shorted something out..
now my side mirror controls, lamp on rearview mirror, and radio antenna no longer work.
i checked all the fuses next to the steeringwheel, and they are good.
please help! thanks in advance do the door locks work when there plugged in?
if u unplug the door locks, do the other things work? conniecartech wrote:do the door locks work when there plugged in?

no they did not work when they were plugged in, they are unplugged again and still nothing works.
it could be a fuse, i know that 3 of them didnt light up when i first got the car but its the same 3 that dont light up. right now the car is at just brakes because my dads has friends there, but they are having no luck so far. could it be one the fuses? if so which one? i dont think it is the fuses though, because im sure my dads friends would of figured it out. it could be the fuses, the only way to know is to check and make sure all the fuses are good. u an pull them out one by one and look at the wire inside them. if its in one piece the fuse is good. if its burned or broke in two, the fuse is bad. u can allso use a dvom set to resistance or a ohm meter to check for continuity on the fuse blades when its unplugged. if theres continuity its good, if not its bad.
theres allso a couple circuit breakers mounted on the fuse panel. they look something like this:
just like on the fuses, unplug the breakers and check for continuity. continuity means its good, no continuity means its bad.
if none of this works, its gonna take some good old fashion detective work by using a schematic for electrical troubleshooting. unfortunately i cant put my hands on a schematic for this car, but if the problem aint fuses or breakers, the only way to find it is to trace circuits for the inop items to find the problem. possibly someplace where they all got a common point. nice, i just called my dads friend that he found the fuse that had blown.
the only problem i have now is my speedometer. it doesn't work. when the car starts it moves a lil so i think its still plugged in.. any help is appreciated. is the check engine lite on?
does the odometer work? how about the other gauges? and the dash lites? Which fuse is the one that is blown? conniecartech wrote:is the check engine lite on?

the check engine light only goes on before starting it, which is normal i believe, the odometer doesnt work, but every other gauge does.
im not sure which fuse it was, if needed ill find out. it sounds like the speedo is bad. the fix is to replace the gauge cluster. your best bet would be to try and get one from a junkyard, either locally or on line.
a bad fuse wouldnt cause this but it would be a good idea to make sure all the fuses are good.

I was thinking it might it be the vss, is there any way to tell if its the gauges or the vss? most of the time a bad vss will set a trouble code, which is why i asked if the check engine lite is on when the engine is running. since the vss feeds to the ecm, it can allso cause driveability problems if its faulty.
the best way to check it is to hook up a scantool with live data capability, to the diagnostic connector, and drive the car. if the scantool reports vehicle speed, the vss is ok.
another thing u can do is check the wire connector at the vss to make sure its clean and tight with no loose or broken wires. and follow the wires back from the vss as far as u can to make sure there in good shape. conniecartech wrote:most of the time a bad vss will set a trouble code, which is why i asked if the check engine lite is on when the engine is running. since the vss feeds to the ecm, it can allso cause driveability problems if its faulty.
