black smoke on startup 1988 Toyt Truck

My 1988 Toyt Truck with 2Bbl carb has rough idle when I start it up in the morning. It also outputs (right after startup) out black stuff for a few seconds that comes out as some sort of soot black stuff on the ground from the exaust on cold mornings or after sitting more than a couple hours. The rough "wavy" idle lasts my whole 30 minute morning commute. Later in the day and warmer days I dont seem to have the rough idle but the black stuff still comes out on first start up. Please advise because lately with the cold rainy morning commute it is starting to stall which it has never done in 15 years. Black smoke means the fuel mixture is to rich. That would cause your rough idle, etc also. I would clean out the carb and do a tune up to correct the problem. The carb itself might need a mixture adjustment also. On another note, you should pull your plugs (and replace them if they are old, plugs are cheap) and see what kind of condition they are in. A lot of rich runnning and they will have a black coating on them. If you are leaking oil into the combustion chamber that will show up also.

Are you sure its black smoke and not bluish smoke? What does it smell like? Hi;

If your vehicle is doing all of the symptoms mentioned only when it's cold
