Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for advice so that I can fix my truck. The truck (89 toyota pickup) will stop when it rains. It literaly shuts off. I have already replaced the altenator and battery.
Even when the truck is just sitting the battery will go dead when it rains and it wont start until I jump it. The last time this happened the truck would start from the jump start, but would shut off when I removed the jumper cables.
I have had this problem for a while, and have been stranded a couple of times. I always thought it was the battery, so I replaced it but it still happened. I then took the truck into my mechanic and he told me that my alternator was'nt fully working, so I replaced the alternator. The truck was sitting for a while after I put in the new alternator and battery, but it would start. Than one day after an intense rain I went to start it and nothing, didnt even turn over. Like I said I jumped it and it ran fine. The next time I went to start it a day or so after it rained it didnt start. So I jumped it again, but it shut off as soon as I took the cables off.
Does anyone have a clue as to what this problem may be? I forgot to mention that I had the distributor cap replaced also.
Thanks for any help. Hi,
I would replace your distributor cap. Sometimes there is a hairline crack you may be able to see and you may be getting moisture in the cap. This could cause that kind of problem. Or possibly the cap isn't on correctly and snapped down tight.
Guest Thanks. I'l check the cap and make sure its solid and on correctly.
