Well, I decided to be stupid, and I was driving about 100 mph. I was slowing down to about 70 when my brakes slipped a little, and as a trailer truck was slowing down to a car that had just cut it off. Well, I hit the truck at about 50 MPH, my airbags deployed, and my winsheild cracked pretty bad.
The damage is only superficial on the outside. Just an amazingly small 15 inch wide, and 4 long (from front to back of hood) scratch on my hood, which doesn't look to bad, and my bumper only has minor scratchs on the fronts which I rubbed off. No cracked headlights, holes or anything major, except that my novelty front plate is FUBAR.
So far everying functions properly, my lights, horn, radio, A/C, and the car drives as if there is no problem at all.
The problems are as follows: Cracked winshield, scrape on hood, passenger seat belt is locked in place, and TWO BLOWN AIRBAGS, which I am trying to put back in its place.
My first question is, how much is it to have Infiniti replace the air bags and the covers? I was thinking of buying "dummy" covers, and driving without airbags, but I am unsure.
Second how much is it to replace a winshield from Infiniti, and is it cheaper if I just get a custom winshield, you know ones with special tints inside the glass etc.
And third, how can I unlock the freaking passenger side seat belt???
PLMK, Thanks You will have to call the dealership for airbag price details.
I strongly recomend airbags. I am also a firefighter and have been to many car accidents where airbags have saved people lifes.
The windsheild: If you have full coverage, your insurance company will replace the windsheild for free. Glass is free in all states unless i am mistaken. If you have somthing other then full coverage, your looking at about 300 - 500$ with instalation. I use to work at a glass company installing windsheilds... Glass is expensive.
The seat belt: It actually has a C02 cartrage that blows out and locks the seat belt into place. You will have to remove the bottom bracket and disassemble it. Once you have done this all you will have to buy is the bottom part.
Good Luck. By the bottem bracket, do you mean the connecter of the seat belt on the very bottom of the belt. The stationary anchor for the seat belt? Or do I have to take out the entire panal and take out the seat belt mecanism? PLMK, Thanks
