2001 Ram 5.9L engine light, alot of info on the truck

2001 1500 Ram 5.9L gas engine
Problem is that when i'm on the highway traveling 60+MPH, alot of times my engine light will come on and blink, some times the truck will start to shake(like the road is bumpy) the shake will go away if I increase the RPM's sometimes it comes back once the RPM's go steady sometimes the shake won't come back for awhile. The engine light will turn off if I let of the gas for a little while. Sometimes the engine light will come on if I get into the gas real hard but other times when i'm just cruising along. Never comes on unless i'm on the highway. Also I can here a very distinct metalic tinking sound my guess is its a peice of metal in front of the catalytic converter from when i got it changed, but i'm not positve.

What I have instaled on the truck is:
MSD 6A ignition
MSD blaster coil
MSD plug wires
Ram air hood
High flow magnaflow catalytic converter
Flowmaster exhaust

I don't know if one of these things has to do with this problem, I kinda did everything together so its hard to pin point if this problem started after one of these things were installed.

I hooked a computer up the truck to try and read the engine code, the code wasn't in there unless the light was on, it was hard to drive 70mph and work a computer at the same time, but I manage to get something about cylinder 5 misfire, but the truck never seemed like it misfired. Also when I had the computer hooked up I checked out the O2 sensors, the sensor - B1S1 the fuel trim% jumps anywhere inbetween -5.46 & 4.68, but the O2 sensor - B1S2 the fuel trim% is a steady 99.06. The voltage on both sensor change around but are different at the same time.

Any help would be much appreciated. I plan on doing some long distacne traveling soon, but don't want to take my truck with this current conditon
THANKS when the check eng light is flashing it is missfireing just like the code side .....so i would check the number 5 cydler take the plug out and see what it looks like ....a missfire could be just more then a plug being bad .....could have a bad plug wire a bad fuel injter for that cydler...could be its a lean problme .....so u have to pretty much strat checking stuff 4322558 wrote:when the check eng light is flashing it is missfireing just like the code side .....so i would check the number 5 cydler take the plug out and see what it looks like ....a missfire could be just more then a plug being bad .....could have a bad plug wire a bad fuel injter for that cydler...could be its a lean problme .....so u have to pretty much strat checking stuff

Ok thanks, i'll see what I can find Since it is an OBDII system the trouble code should be in the computer memory until it is erased. If the problem started after all the changes from original, I would look closely at the converter since the front sensor seems to be working properly and the rear is fixed at a very high percentage. Something is funny here. He posted that he has a MSD 6A ignition installed. How is that hooked up because the ignition is controlled by the PCM. The PCM might be able to fire the injectors because it is recieving a signal from the cranksensor but how does it have the ability to control spark timing or retard timing if there is a spark knock, which could be the reason for the tinking sounds, with the 6A installed?
Your fuel trim looks fine. I don't know if what you posted is long term or short term trim. Is that at cruising or when your idling? The reason the fuel trim is 99% for Bank 1 sensor 2 is because it isn't used for calculating fuel trim. Only B1S1 is used for that. B1S2 is only used to monitor catalytic converter efficiency. discretesignals wrote:Something is funny here. He posted that he has a MSD 6A ignition installed. The way I have the MSD 6A hooked up is at the coil, I cut the wires going to the coil and connected each side to the MSD 6A, the way the instructions said to.
I believe when I got the info was while i was driving I got on the gas a little bit a few times. Thats good to know about the second O2 sensor, thought there might be somethin wrong with it. I'm going to disconect the MSD 6A and see what happens after that.

Does anyone know if I could just disconnect battery to the MSD 6A or do i have to also disconnect and reconnect the wires directly to the coil? Carmen Electra Giving A Head And Taking A Load!
