Greetings
I have recently purchased a 1988 Dodge Dakota 4 wheel drive 6 cylnder truck. It has about 100 thousand miles on it.
For the past week It had a little problem starting, to where if I held the key in long enough it would eventually start.
It has been doing this every time and gradually getting worse.
It finally pooped out on me and will not start at all. I asked my father for assistance and he seems to think it is a fuel
injector problem because no gas is getting to the carborator. When we unhooked the gas line and tried to start it,
no gas came out at all. We need YOUR help! We would like to know which relay is the fuel pump relay and where the
fuel pump exactly is located as well. And if you guys can assist us in any way this would be GREATLY appreciative.
Thanks for your time and remember christmas is coming up and I would love to feel jolly knowing my vehicle can make it up to my family for christmas this year. your truck aint got a carburetor. i think your talking about the throttle body. and the fuel pump is on top of the gas tank, u gotta drop the tank to replace it.
but start with the easy stuff first. first check for a blown fuel pump fuse. if the fuse is good, turn the key on and listen to see if u hear the fuel pump buzzing for a couple seconds. if not, go underneath and disconnect the electric connector at the pump. use a dvom set to volts to probe the terminals on the connector. then while your probing, have someone turn the key on. u should see 12 volts for a couple seconds. then have them crank the engine. u should allso have 12 volts while its cranking.
if theres voltage going to the pump but u dont hear it running, the pump is bad. if theres no voltage, try again, this time with the lead of the dvom on the terminal for the power wire, and the - lead on a good metal ground. see if u get voltage now. if so, theres a bad connection on the ground wire.
let us know what u find with all this and we can go from there.Car Repair Talk's forum.
