I have a 1998 Jeep Grand cherokee with a 4.0 6cyl and auto trans that is throwing a P0720 dtc. I have replaced the OSS on the back of the transmission, but still get the P0720. Is anybody out there famiiar with this problem that can recommend where else I should look to solve the problem?
Thanks very much for whatever help you can offer!
Just had a quick read through the test procedure for this code and there are so many variables; it hard to say what to do next? It’s all depending on the results of a test step’s outcome; which would determine what the next thing is to test.
For example in step 4 it says if the scan tool reading is 60MPH or less go to step 10; if scan tool reads 60MPH or above go to step 6. Steps 6 & 10 take you in two completely different directions.
So unless you have a proper scanner to read sensor data, a DVOM and a complete understanding of what the test procedures mean; I’m going to suggest taking the vehicle in to someone that has.
where can I find the test procedures?
Most of the aftermarket repair information suppliers (All Data & Mitchell) are now on line with a pay as you go format.
I haven’t looked in sometime now but possibly even the manufacturers may also offer this?
