02 cougar cylinder misfiring issue

i know you guys can fix this with no problem. i'm tryin to save a buck.
should i have the mechanic do the work or diy?

my cougar has 75383 miles.
it started missing so i had the oil & fuel filter changed. the fuel filter was bad but changing it didn't solve the missing problem. their computer says the #1 cylinder is misfiring.
i'm prepared to replace the plugs & wires but is this feasible diy or should i bite the bullet & leave it to the pros?
from the outside, it looks so compact & i don't want to get into the "will it all go back together correctly" or "can i reach it?, do i have the right tools?" situation.
all due respect to the automotive gods here...

As a general rule if you are having serious doubts about being able to tackle a DIY job then you probably shouldn't. You listed the main problems most people have during a DIY so it sounds like you may have been there before. On the hand that also means you have done some DIY before. But as I said when in doubt, pay to have it done.

Replacing the spark plugs is a DIY project. I would invest in a set of wires and a set of Motorcraft plugs. Your vehicle has enough mileage where it will need the plugs and wires replaced anyway. Just take your time and do one cylinder at a time. Match up the new wire to the old one to be sure the length is correct. Go slow and you will be OK. As Jeff stated, if you are not comfortable, have a shop do it.
