abs brakes caravan

i want to replace my 1993 abs master cylinder that needs $2,000 worth of work with a non abs unit. This van came both ways. Will their be electrical issues? Brake booster? Do I need to run new brake lines? HELP and Thanks. I am learning something here. I didn't think the master cyl was different with or without ABS?

Have had some folks ask me to get rid of it and I wouldn't. The default mode with a failure of ABS is supposed to be regular brakes and a light on your dash. If you need the master cyl and know it's different what is the price difference?

I really don't like anti-lock brakes as in a panic stop I just have the good old pump the brakes and use steering to avoid a problem as possible. So for me it would confuse my reflexes and would just rather the vehcicle didn't try to rethink this for me and would like it available but optional for all cars, and and on off switch for those who want to choose as the reflex of pumping ABS equipped cars will render you less braking. Let us know how you make out. I'm interested and don't think you have to fix it other than the master cylinder but am not sure, T

Hey Tom I think he’s talking about this style of ABS system; it’s made by Bosch and it doesn’t use a conventional master Cylinder. They worked great until they screwed up and then it was/is big bucks to fix them.
As for changing the system over yes you’re going to have to do some plumbing to retrofit to a conventional master. Also you’ll have to install a proportioning valve. Your best bet is to have a donor vehicle sitting beside you so you can transfer all required parts.
One bit of caution when removing the master; with the ignition off, pump the brake peddle at least 15 or 20 times that’s to dissipate the pressure in the accumulator. The accumulator is the round ball beside the reservoir it can hold up to 2000 psi and if you try removing it with out releasing the pressure properly it’ll shoot off like a cannon ball.

I agree that's not the same and you got it. Get a donor vehicle or pay up for just the new master and still forget the rest if even if will work properly as regular brakes. I don't even like the smell of that set up.

I forget what year this was but someone would have to really get used to making up new brakes lines. Thought it was a 91. If that needed the whole shooting match to be safe I think I'd give up on that vehicle for $2000 bucks to fix existing system.

Warning to beginners about brakes lines. If they must be replaced only do it right with real flare nuts and make sure lines are NOT wobbly and out of the way of heat and where a vehicle could be jacked up. OE does this but they haven't mastered how to stop them from rusting out. Nice safety feature! T
