I have a 99 Isuzu Rodeo w/ Auto-trans.
Trans oil was changed at approx. 65K mi.
Now at 82K miles, I am experiencing "clunking" sound
when it up-shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.
It also occurs on to a lessor extent from 3rd to 2nd
and 2nd to 1st. This vehicle does NOT have a trans dipstick
so I'm unable to check the fluid. Can you give me some
ideas on what the problem may be, before I turn it over to a
mechanic?
Thanks! Are you sure it is in your transmission and not your Yoke? I would definately check the entire drive line first (Including the differential) before blaming the transmission.
transman I've checked the U-Joints and they appear in good working condition.
I also checked for leaking trans fluid, (by leaving a newspaper under the car) and did not see any signs of leaks.
The problem is erratic. For example, the clunking during shifting was present in the AM yesterday. But during the 43 mi. trip home, the car
ran fine.
Thanks again for your assistance! Take it to a trans shop or dealer and let them check. Its possibly an electronic problem causing the computer to command full line pressure which would make your shifts harsh. See if any codes have been set.
