96 Trans Am ran out of fuel.. will not start now
Okay, first i made a mistake lettimng my girlfriend driive my car..
I know she had to try to start the car after it was out of gas drying up the fuel pump, line and filling up the fuel-injection rail with air.
How do i prime it to gewt it started? iv looked all over tonight to try to find this info but am unable to get any info.. so, i am asking you guys..
please help
JO It should prime itself with just normal cranking of the engine. There is a valve stem on the fuel rail under the hood, that you can use to bleed the lines with. it works just like the valve stem on a tire. You might have a bad fuel pump though. have your girlfriend crank the engine over while you hit the under side of the fuel tank with your fist. this will kick start a weak fuel pump.
Let us know what happens. well, i had a feeling that the fuel pump was the issue.. I did everything i knew to get it started. released the air on fuel rail, I cant remember what its called but it looks like a valve stem on the fuel rail. not much air came out witch first lead me to believe it was the fuel pump in the first place.
I did what you said by hitting the gas tank while trying to start it. not an easy task do to all the heat shield rapped around the gas tank. it didn't work... okay iv looked into changing the fuel pump. $250 for the pump, not cheap and the book says to remove the rear axle. crazy stuff. i found directions on how to cut a hole in the trunk with measurements and all. it will put you right above the fuel pump and can be changed that way. now what will suck is if i do this and its not the fuel pump. but thats what everybody is saying it is. Cutting holes in the trunk does not sound safe, nor cost effective. Are you sure about removing the axle???? I think I would look into Alldata FIRST Alldata
Be very careful working around the fuel tank, cutting especially! might be better to pay a mechanic to do this one for you, dropping the tank can be a bear.Car Repair Talk's forum.
