1993 Nissan Maxima Transmisson chatter

Bought 1993 Maxima new and have had great service. Car has 160,000 miles on it now and I have noticed a chatter in the drive train occasionally when it downshifts from overdrive under a little strain. What should I check first? Transmission fluid is OK; but never been changed. Was told by one mechanic years ago not to ever change this model transmission fluid. Does this model have a filter and should I change this first? jwbarger1 wrote:Was told by one mechanic years ago not to ever change this model transmission fluid. I can't imagine an automatic transmission that doesn't need a fluid and filter change. If it hasn't been changed in 160 thousand miles, it is so overdue.

Hopefully no damage has occurred yet. The fluid and flter change could just fix your trouble. I do not suggest a power flush, though.Car Repair Talk's forum.
