After driving around for a good while and pulling back into the driveway, transmission fluid (alot) starts streaming from between the transmisssion and the engine. I replaced the filter and pan gasket, but I believe the problem lies with the filler tube gasket, the vent tube, or the cooler lines. My problems are, I do not know where the vent tube is on this transmission, and if the cooler lines are plugged, how do I test to see?
Thanks, gabednar if its coming from between the engine and trans, it sounds like a front trans seal. u can remove both lines from the trans and blow air through eighter 1 of them. those lines might hold a half a quart or more so be ready 4 a mess. vent tube doesnt seem likely if the trans fluid level is correct. dipstick gasket i think would leak from the side. does it only leak wile its running? let us know. Thank you. Fluid level may have been high, but not sure. Trans does not leak all the time (i.e. going to and from work 20 minutes one way), only if I am out in the vehicle driving all over town. When I returned home from much driving, the leak seemed to start as I turned into the driveway. It has leaked heavily only twice, and both times were after a long period of driving. Thought the vent tube might have been plugged, since I understand that can cause fluid to blow out through the seal. Thought plugged lines might be the culprit, because they can cause the same result, cant they? Didnt think it was just the seal since the problem is not constant. you r rite about constant leak. i am not a tranny man. i know that plugged lines will stop tranny function. any one? all ya all jump in, please jump in!!! if the fliud level is fine and the trans shifts ok i doubt it's the vent, the front seal will leak only when the vehicle is hot, I have seen this. remove the inspection cover and spray everything down with some brake clean and blow it dry, then start her up and watch for the leak. Thank you, transmission shifts fine, and fluid level is now normal for sure. If a plugged vent tube does not cause fluid to blow by the seal, then I will indeed remove the inspection cover, crank her up and watch for fluid from the seal.(as soon as we recover from this upstate S.C. ice storm). My only regret is that I did not measure the amount of fluid in the pan when I removed it to replace the filter and gasket after the last leak.Car Repair Talk's forum.
