1994 Ford Escort Wagon Transmission problems

I have a 1994 Ford Escort Wagon. It only has 64000 miles on it and runs well.
The last week or so it has become hard to shift gears. It is an automatic transmission.
Can anyone give me an idea as to the problem? Car changes gears ok. Does it sound
like a major or minor problem? I would appreciate any help.
 

Try lubing up the cable and the parts you see move at the transmission and at the shifter if you can get to it ok.
