I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, probably about 2-3 weeks ago I went to the car wash (do it yourself) and left a light on and of course the car was dead. So I had someone jump me but since then my car radio and cd player won't player it says LOCKED on the front screen. I lost the manual so next to taking it to a mechanic I have no other chose. It can get very boring not listening to anything on long road trips!!! Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks
Amanda I think you have what is called "Anti-Theft" on your radio. And the anti-theft device was turned "on". Either you or someone else put a code in when it was turned on. If you have the code I will have the instructions for you when my car gets back later on in the day.
If you do not know the code then you are in trouble because the only people who know the "secret" to over-ride the code is the Dealer.
Oce the car's radio is back on I suggest that you turn the antitheft device off--it is not worth the trouble. If they want the radio they will steal the car. I found a Haynes Manual for a 1998 GM car and here is the proceedure to turn the radio back on:
Pause no more than 15 seconds between steps
Turn the ignition switch on but leave the radio off
Press the MN button and 000 should display
Press the HR button to make the last two numbers match your code then release the button
Press the HR button until the first one or two numbers match your code
Press AM/FM . SEC should appear indicating the stereo is unlocked.
However if LOC appears the numbers you entered were incorrect.
If this works for you let me know and I will post the long-winded proceedure to disable the Anti-theft system all-together. http://www.fierofocus.com/articles/0601 ... Amelio.htm That is good information marvin. However, 99% of the people have no idea what the code is. If they do not have the code, they may need to go to a GM dealer to have the code recalled. Also, write the code somewhere you can find it if it does it again.Car Repair Talk's forum.
