What is supposed to happen is... turn ignition off, radio stays on until door is opened or it times out (after ten minutes), then radio turns off. What actually happens is... turn ignition off, open door, radio stays on. I have gone as far as shutting door and locking truck (with remote key), going shopping, returning, unlocking truck, opening door again, radio still on, and starting truck. The radio will stay on the entire time. I have taken the truck to the dealership twice, but since the problem is intermittent, they have sent me home with no results. The problem occurs most when the CD player is on. I am thinking that maybe there is a faulty radio diconnect relay or it needs a terminating resistor in the shut-off circuit. I am thinking that the CD player's motor may be generating some voltage which could be maintaining the switch. Any experience with any GM Vehicles will help.
Do the window motors still work too when you open the door after removing the key from the ignition?
What have they done or replaced so far?
I am not up to speed on the 07's because I work at an independent. But I do know that on the 05's the Primary Mode Master is the BCM (body control module). The BCM, the primary mode master, controls the power to various other systems in the vehicle. It also communicates with the radio to tell it when to turn on and off. They need to monitor the BCM's datastream with the Tech 2 and make sure that it is receiving the right signal for key off and door switch open signal. If the power windows still work when the radio doesn't turn off then the BCM isn't turning off the RAP (Retained Accessory Power) relay either. If I had to take a guess there probably is something wrong with the BCM's software or the BCM itself. May be related.................I had the exact same thing in my 02 Caravan..............clock/radio/cd would stay on..................it was a weak battery.
Replaced battery, everything was OK.
Someone said it may have been a logic control somewhere..............possibly malfunctioned due to low battery power?? All funky stuff like that is controlled by the BCM. The GMC Dealer's svc dept said that they checked the BCM thoughoughly and it was functioning properly. Maybe they didn't check the signal coming in from "key off, door open." This was my thought. I don't think it is BCM software because the problem is intermittent. Retained Accessory Power relay is a good thought, too. So far, they won't do anything to it, because they can't pinpoint the problem (and this is warranty), but I told them I won't take the truck back until they do something. So, today they are going to replace the radio. I don't think it will work, but they have to do something. It might be internal on the radio. Manufacturers do funny things sometimes to ensure sales.
