aftermarket stereo with no faceplate

I just bought a used car. it came with a stereo installed ( I believe it is after market bc there is black spongy stuff around it instead of being built into the dash like most original radios I have seen) no. 1 is there an easy way to pull out or find the make or model and no. 2 where can i find a replacement faceplate ? ( several people have said salvage yards but i need the make to ask for) i would say your best bet would be just to get a new stereo you could get a new one for like $40 and install it your self its ez
If you have no faceplate, and spongey black stuff around it, it will be hard to extract. The cage it sits in might be glued into the dash by the spongey stuff. If you have no "key" (part of stereo pack when bought) it makes it almost impossible to get the unit out. I will have to roll with the other gentleman in this instance. You may need a new one. Will save you time, and money and heartache trying to find a faceplate.
