1999 nissan pathfinder stereo Won't Play CDs

My factory stereo for my 1999 Nissan Pathfinder will not play CDs, but only show an ERR message every time a disc is inserted. I have tried using a laser-cleaning disc in order to correct the problem, but the player rejected that as well. Any suggestions?

In cases like this is it ALMOST ALWAYS easier to replace the unit. The cd reader could be damaged, or the sensor in the unit that recognises that a CD has been inserted could also be damaged. Very difficult to diagnose and fix as they are quite small and a pain in the butt. Replacement time is my opinion.
