1993 Jeep GC Radio problem

My vehicle: 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo; 4L 6cyl.

I am having a radio problem that I have been having for quite a while. I decided to just "live with it" but now I cannot take it any longer.

The problem is pretty simple, I get no sound from my speakers even though the radio receives power (comes on) and speakers are fine. The antenna motor is pretty faulty, as it does not work unless you manually pull/push on the antenna, then it kicks in. However, this should not affect the cassette deck, should it? I want to use the cassette deck, NOT the radio itself.

Here is a summary of the symptons:

-Radio powers on and works fine.
-Speakers are fine
-Antenna wires and all are fine I believe.

I just want to be able to use my portable cd player cassette to listen to it through my car speakers. I heard of a "mute" process that happens when the antenna is not extended. Are there any quick solutions? I would be willing to pay the person (via paypal) who gives me a solution that works. Thanks in advance. Also, does a 1993 Jeep have an amp? I looked under the rear driver side seat, which is where the 1994 model's amp is located, but found nothing. Could this problem be related to a blown or faulty amp? I just got finished troubleshooting an audio system that behaved similar to yours. All I did was borrow a similar radio and swapped the two. I found that my faulty radio did not output to two of its four speakers, and that two of the speakers from the faulty car were not operating. You are not likely to have the same problems, but that's the simple way to troubleshoot. I took my car to the stereo installation department of Circuit City just to ask for some advice on what may be wrong. When I questioned the guy about the "muting" of the radio that the Jeep does when the antenna is not up, he told me that it "didn't sound right" and he had never heard of any such muting process. I remember reading that somewhere, though. Does the Jeep mute the radio until the antenna is up? I think I am going to just buy a cheap radio/cd player from circuit city and let them install it this weekend, that way if the problem has nothing to do with the radio itself, i'll let them fix it! Any other ideas? Since you don't plan on doing any serious troubleshooting yourself, then sure why not. I hope you keep in mind that Circuit City only offers free installation to systems that are $99.95 and up. Yeah, I don't mind paying 100.00 to finally get music back. I do however wish that I could get a cd/cassette player for 99.99, as I use a portable device as my music source. I just use a cassette adapter to listen to it through my car speakers. I figure paying 100.00 would be alot cheaper and easier than finding someone I know with a 93-95 GC and asking to borrow their radio to test mine and all. Thanks for the help
