subject: 88 daytona 4 cyl; automatic floor shift. was running fine. while moving from park to reverse, changed direction and went back to drive but may not have completed full stop. Doh! something popped and all forward gears 1-2-D were lost. was kind of a blur but moving less then 2mph for sure, maybe not at all. how much potential damage are we looking at? broken gear teeth? bands in disarray or maybe just a broken shifter cable or clamp? still lines up and functions for park, reverse, and neutral. all forward positions are dead in the water. any expert opinions welcome. sounds like the foward band is broken . if you have reverse the cable isent broken .papasage Looks like you damaged the low roller clutch, also called the one way clutch or sprag.
This transmission has two bands, a low/reverse band which holds in low and reverse gears, and an intermediate (kickdown) band, which holds in 2nd gear. The bands will not be the cause of your troubles. You have internal problems with your trans, it will need to be removed and disassembled to be repaired.
