Can someone help me in regards to installing new plugs on this vehichle. The Haynes manual isn't much help. Also, do I need any special tools, type of spark plug socket, etc. Also, what would be the spark plug of choice to use. Thanks.
Please disregard this post. Everything taken care of. Get some antiseize for the spark plug threads and dielectric grease for the plug wire boots.
I always get the same brand and model plug that the car was built with.
As far as tools are concerned, you should be able to use any normal spark plug socket and a ratchet. That said, you will need to look at each plug to evaluate the accessibility. The three in the back are probably going to be difficult. Somtimes it is easier, for example, to reach them from underneath the car.
Change the plugs when the engine is cold to avoid damaging the threads in the head. Thread the new plugs in by hand so you don't cross-thread them. markm, thanks for your helpful reply. you may also want to purchase a spark plug boot puller. these work like a pair of pliers. the clamping end is shaped so that they can clamp around the round boot and are usually coated with a rubber type surface. makes it much easier to grasp a difficult to reach spark plug wire boot. you will know if you need these soon after attempting to remove the boots from the plugs. any auto parts store will carry these.
