I have a Chevy Express 1500 and the side door has a hinge that will not close properly. I have tried lubing it but to no avail. it is now jamming open so that I cannot get the door closed. Does the hinge pin remove on this or does the whole hinge need to be removed and replaced? Is a dealer the best place to get a replacement hinge. Any Help is greatly appreciated.
lhrs, while this job is really light body work, as a mechanic at a small chevy dealer (had to do some of everything, lol) we occasionally did this kind of door work. We always ordered the parts from gm spo or bill heard, a large gm distributor/dealer and would get them either overnight or in a few days? I always liked to replace the entire hinge assembly if possible rather than indy components of it. If its completely bolt on (easy), if it requires any welding(not so easy- body shop time). It must also be adjusted back to its original postion and carefully checked for proper operation and as with all heavy doors, caution taken so it doesnt fall on your foot lol. Sometimes its a 2 man job? Hope this helped you some?Car Repair Talk's forum.
