well i have a 95 pontiac sunfire and there is one thing I find odd and i dont know what would cause it. When I turn all the way to the left if i let go of the wheel it will automatically start straightening out which is normal for all vehicles i've driven. But if i turn all the way to the right it sticks. It wont turn back unless i manually turn the steering wheel. The only thing i could see fixing this is an allighnment. Other than this the alighnment seems good so I'm not sure. Anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks
is there abnormal wear on the front tires? like more tread wear on one side then the other, feathering or cupping, etc?
did u run into anything, or drive over a big pothole or bump in road? any front end work done lately?
is there any looseness or play in the steering wheel when the car is standing still? or vibrations or shimmy in the steering wheel when the car is moving? well no the steering feels tight normal tire wear, no vibrations. I did a minor repair to the right hand stide the ball joint on this car is bolted on to the lower control arm wth 3 bolts the bolts were loose i took them out they were somewhat stripped so i replaced them and tightened them up thats it. before that if i hit a bump or something it would make a clunk noise which is gone now thats it. i never noticed if it did this before as i dont really turn as sharp as it can very often and thats the only time this occures. any time u do front end work, even minor stuff, its a good idea to get a alignment. if the ball joint was loose that could of caused it to wear faster then normal, and that could have something to do with your problem.
so i suggest getting the alignment checked, and adjusted if needed. allso ask them to check the rest of the front end and steering components for damage or wear, as that could allso throw alignment off. even if a alignment dont solve this problem, it should be done anyways since u done some work on the ball joint.Car Repair Talk's forum.
