98 Deville 4.6. When trying to start, sometimes it would just click. After multiple tries, it would start. Battery connections seemed fine, so replaced the starter (under the intake manifold!) Still having the same problem. Is there anything else like a sensor or anything that could cause this? Only trouble codes are O2 codes and 2 codes I don't know about. P1253-H0251 insufficient switches bank 2, sensor 1 and P1133- H0251 Insufficient switches bank 1 sensor 1.
Thanks for the help!!! first thing to do is clean the battery terminals and the inside of the cable ends. use a wire brush or fine grit sandpaper on them till there shiny, then make sure there tight when u put them back on. sometimes it dont take much corosion to cause a starting problem. allso make sure the other ends of both cables are clean and tight. if there the original cables and they look like they seen better days, u could have a bad cable.
it would allso be a good idea to take it to one of the parts stores and have them do a 'load test' on the battery.
the o2 sensor codes aint got nothing to do with the starting problem. it sounds like there may be something going on thats keeping the engine running either too rich or too lean. the best way to narrow it down is to hook up a scantool that displays live data, and monitor o2 sensor crosscounts, short and long term fuel trim, and readings from other sensors, like coolant temp, map sensor and air temp sensor, and injector pulse width. Sometimes if the battery was leaking, the acid runs inside the cable and etches the copper out. If that is the case, the best course is to replace the cable. You can also do what is called a voltage drop test to check the integrity of the cables and their connections.
