I'm told by a dealer that I need to have the Midpipe and Muffler replaced on my 2005 Nissan Murano.
Any idea how much I should pay for this? Any scam I should look out for? Is there a chance there's an easier fix I should be asking about? what problem were u having, that made u bring it in to the dealer? what did they explain to u about whats going on? When I start the car, I notice it's much louder than normal, particularly from underneath. I don't know much, but it definitely sounds like an exhaust problem. The dealer said there's signifinicant rust and damage where the midpipe connects to the muffler, and both need to be replaced at a cost of $1200-plus. lcavanagh820 wrote:Any scam I should look out for?
u allready fell for one of the biggest scams going, and thats taking your car to the dealer. i cant give u a good price, cause prices vary all over the country, and even in the same area. but i can tell u that $1200 for this job on this vehicle is crazy high.
exhaust work aint rocket science. any competant independant shop can do it, and for a lot less then the dealer. in fact, 95% or more of any work your car will ever need can be done by a good independant shop, and youll save a ton of money.
the best advice i can give u is to take it around to a couple shops. dont tell them u had it at the dealer, or what the dealer said. just explain about the noise and have them check it out, tell u whats wrong, and give u there price. getting a couple second opinions will give u some peace of mind, and a good idea of what a fair price is in your area.
i dont like to say for sure without seeing it, but if what the dealer said is true, it sounds like the muffler and pipe do need to be replaced. but get it checked by some other places in person.Car Repair Talk's forum.
