Condition: TRUCK CRANKS BUT DOES NOT START
truck stalled one evening in drive thru, started back up, hiccuped a couple of times drove few miles home w/out problem. Started right up next morning got a few miles from home and truck stalled, started right back up several times, but immediately stalled, then truck stopped starting at all--- it cranks, but does not start.
Computer: two codes read fuel lean, bank one and fuel lean, bank two generic
Changed fuel filter, released nut on fuel tank/pump side of filter first and no pressure or gas release when loosened/ released engine side nut and fuel system pressure present. Fuel from the old filter was very black dirty, contaminant was gritty. Installed new filter and after a couple cranks the TRUCK STARTED AND REVED FOR ABOUT FIVE SECONDS THEN STALLED. BACK TO TRUCK CRANKS, BUT DOES NOT START.
What do you folks recommend. I assume my fuel tank is contaminated, but the question is from where. Is it possible for the charcoal in the evap cannister to back up into the fuel tank? Is there a lining on the inside of the tank that could be degrading? Also does it sound like my fuel pump is okay or should it be replaced? Anyway, what procedures do you recommend and am I thinking in the right direction and/or there other things I should be considering. I would appreciate any input. I have a 2000 silverado(v8) and have the same problem but not as bad, and I recently read that alot of 1992-2002(i believe) had faulty fuel pumps. Try replacing it and see if the problem continues.Car Repair Talk's forum.
