I have tail lights when I turn on the lights. I have functioning break lights when the healdlights are off. When the headlights are on, I have functioning taillights but when I use the breaks I have no light at all on the driver side rear. I am not 100% sure but it also appears that the passenger side break light does not come on, it just stays as tail lights.
I replaced the bulbls and I checked the fuses which were fine. Any ideas?
Thank you,
Center Break light functions properly at all times. I don't know why I wrote that, it is a Laredo. Hi chivaecr, From what you describe there is a good chance that the turn signal switch is defective. What I like to do is put on the turn signals and then the hazzard lights and compare the two. Then try the same thing with the headlamps on and also while wiggeling the turn signal lever. What happens is there is grease that is on the contacts of the t/s switch or they just go bad and won't allow current to flow. Power is then used from another circuit and back feeds that circuit doing the kind of strange things yours is doing. Because you can get the lights to work although not all at the same time I would think that the grounds and bulbs are ok but if you installed a single enement bulb where a 2 element bulb should be or a ground wire is bad then it could also cause this type of complaint. Double check your bulbs and grounds and if ok try plugging in a new turn signal switch at the bottom of the steering column connector and see if that doesn't fix the problem. Keep us posted. Bill I have the same exact problem with my jeep and I am pretty sure the the peice the the bulb is the probleCar Repair Talk's forum.
