1992 Dodge Grand Caravan SE, 3.3, 2-whl, Fuel Pump gone out?
I posted before about putting a used fuel pump in this van, and then did so. It drove just fine for 2 days, then this afternoon after starting it up we noticed the gas gauge read empty when it couldn't possibly have been. (None of the other gauges were affected) A trip to the gas station confirmed this, and after filling it, it read full once again (we were well over half full when we went to fill it by the gallons we had to put in) later, as we rounded a corner, it sputtered and died. Attempts to restart were successful after several, but the van was barely holding on (sputtering) then giving out again. Finally it just wouldn't stay running. It would try, but wouldn't stay running more than a secondor so before puttering and giving out. We checked for the sound of the pump running~nothing.
When the first pump gave out, the low fuel light was on (it really was low this time) so I shut it off to wait for a friend I was meeting. Attempts to re-start the van were completely unsuccessful, even after adding a few gallons to the tank. You couldn't hear the pump kicking on either. We replaced the fuel pump as stated above.
What is going on with my van? Is it not the fuel pump? What else can we check?? we put two used fuel pumps on our 93 dodge grand caravan and it still would not run we finally got a new one and now it runs . it is best to put a new one on.
