starters, butt connector, pig tail

replacing my starter in ford tempo (1990) the new starter only has one lead hookup, for the heavy power cable, where do I put the lead from the solanoid switch? the smaler wire?

Answer
your replacement should have an 8in. pig tail attached to where your lead would go. you should install the starter and cut your original lead  back about 6in. and use a butt connector( might even be on the new starter lead) to connect it to your new lead. if your starter doesn't have it it sounds like you might have the wrong starter.
