I can't seem to locate any parts for my project, a 1956 M274 "army mule". Even searching the web I can only find parts for the more common 2 cyl. I have the original 4 cyl willies, they are very rare. All I need is a new magneto/distributor unit. Any help or direction would be useful.
Answer
OK, I don't have any real idea about the mule. I googled it and found a site that did parts for it, and they had the magneto. Try http://www.m274mule.com/page/page/3903149.htm and see what you find. If this is the same 134 cu.in. engine that Willys used in their Jeeps, there ought to be tons of stuff out there for both the L-head and F-head versions. Jeeps didn't use magnetos, though, they had a battery/spark system like civilian automobiles. Also, if you have an old magneto that doesn't work any more, they can be rebuilt. Any airport with a repair facility should be able to steer you in the right direction for a local rebuilder; all airplanes use magnetos.
