    This all depends on how new a vehicle we are talking about.  If we are talking about old-fashioned small blocks, then the answer is:  168 tooth flywheels use the starter with the bolts arranged diagonally on the nose, 153 tooth flywheels use the start with the bolts directly across from one another.  It's that simple.
