mercedes 240D 1976 oil cooler, chassis number, english road

QUESTION: my mercedes is a  240D 1976  
chassis number 115117- engine number 616916-
my oil cooler is beyond repair and so I am looking for a new replacement part/top quality used part/identical spurious replacement part
the original is a steel oil cooler (BEHR) and the number on it which I am guessing is the OEM part number  is .

ANSWER:      I've asked around, and no one that I deal with has access to a new one of these.  You might want to try some of the on-line places that sell used Merc parts.  Or, given that the cooler is made of steel, you might want to see if a welder could repair it.

can I ask do you recommend any particular on-line sites for buying this kind of part ??
welding the cooler is not an option - the core is rotten from rust ( salt damage I guess - it spent 30 years on english roads..)

    Well, if you are in England I have to admit that I don't know of any place over there.  Since you are in England, though, I would suggest that Germany would be a good idea.  You might want to arrange to take your next vacation trip over there, toting the cooler with you.  In the mean time, you could have a hose made at any agricultural or industrial supplier that would bypass the cooler temporarily.  My guess is that after you have driven it for a while without the cooler, and it hasn't gotten hot, you will cease to worry about the cooler so much.  Now, if you move to Spain or Arizona, then you will have to do something about it.
