bulb replacement, crown vic, plastic thingy

how to replace a bulb in a insrtument panel for dash for the speedometer in a 2001 crown vic p71

Answer
You will have to remove the cover on the bottom of the instrument panel and reach up behind the cluster to get at the bulb.  Lying on your back with a flashlight shining up into the space will help, but it might still have to be done by touch.  There is a little plastic thingy that holds the bulb and which is twisted into the back of the printed-circuit dash.  Twist it CCW to remove.  It uses a number 194 bulb; everybody has those for sale, even the 7/11.  While you're under there you might want to change all of the bulbs you can reach, they're all the same age and changing them is a pain in the ass.
