Tuneup, nissan maxima, filter change

Mike,

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima with 132K miles.
Can you give me an estimate on How much a tuneup cost?

Answer
No, 'cause there is no longer any such thing as a tuneup.  If there has never been any preventive maintenance done to this car, then you should probably spend at least a thousand on having things checked over.  If it has routinely been maintained, then it might need nothing.  The item that is of most concern is the timing belt/chain.  At 132,000 miles, it should be changed.  If it has been changed before, then it may not need it, they will generally last around 100,000 miles.  Plugs, wires(if it has them), air filter, and an oil and filter change are all that is left.  You'll have to consult your mechanic to find out how much he charges to change the belt/chain, it can be substantial.
