where are the oxygen sensors on a 88 260E?
what do I have to take off to find them?
Answer
Oxygen sensors are always located in the exhaust pipe or manifold near where they join. In some cases they will be located a little further downstream to make access easier. Start by looking at the manifold, and then follow it down to where it connects with the pipe. The sensor is a 2-1/2 inch long metal cylinder with a nut at the base just like a spark plug. A special socket will be needed to remove it, all parts stores carry them. Make sure to keep the new sensor clean prior to installation, and that there is some (not a lot) of anti-seize compound on the threads. Without that compound, it won't come out next time. In this car there should only be one sensor.
