Hello,
I drive a 1998 cavalier with an automatic 4 speed transmission. The engine is a 2.4 liter. Lately when I turn the car right after the first few right turns, it sounds as if something under the car is knocking and shifting the car over. There is also this sqeeking sound when this going on. I thought it might be a badly worn CV joint, but I replaced both cv shafts and the noise has continued. The car has 73000 miles on it. I am all out of ideas.
Thanks for your time guys.
--Dave Try tightening every bolt under the car on that side. When a car comes into my shop with a poping noise, that is the first thing i do. You would be suprised how many cases it fixes. I will definatly try that. The wierd thing is that the car has to travel a bit before the knocking noise occurs. I think this might be a problem with the fluid levels so I am going to try to fix that tonight. Ok,
I replaced the transmission fluid and found that it didn't help. I did manage to figure out that the car only starts knocking after it warms up. Could this be because of a wheel bearing or gear oil?? Does it only knock while moving or does it sitting still?
What MPH are you at when you hear it?
If you idle with the foot off the brake, does it still do it at that slow of a speed?
