grinding and squeaking noise coming from rear

I have a 2000 ford mustang and it has started making a grinding noise that sometimes last even after i release the brake but it does get worse when i hit the brakes. It also is making a squealing noise. Please Help When my car did this it was the brake pads.

The squeal is a small sensor on the brake pads to let you know to change the pads. When the pads first start to go thin the sensor only goes off when you brake, but after a while it will sound even when you are not braking.

For most cars the pads are $15 to $40 per axel depending on the quality of the pad (quiet clean pads are more expensive).

I had trouble finding someone to install them without having the rotors turned. I feel you should only turn them if they are etched but most shops wanted to turn the no matter what (this increases the hours charged as well as the cost to turn them). I found a guy with a little general repair shop who only charged $35 labor. When my daugthers truck needed pads she had a friend put them on free!!

Good luck
