Hi all,
im new to the forums and to my new/old car
I have owned my xb for about a month now and with my luck, the 1st problem has risen.
The best way i have been able to describe the sound is a quiet, high pitch metal on metal sound that happens only on acceleration (mainly up hill). The pitch remains constant. If im really moving with the pedal down, i dont tend to hear it.. perhaps the engine is much louder than the sound. It will never happen when i'm coasting, braking or idling.
The car has been in to the dealership for inspection. They thought it could be the drive belt, but it only has 30,000 miles on it and the belts look fine. I took a ride with a mechanic and he did notice the sound and said it sounded like an air surge through the intake. perhaps the high pitched sound of the air just sounds like metal rubbing. i was informed that the intake on this car is plastic and they tend to be noisier. The xB's are also NOT very sound proof. Perhaps thats why i never heard this type of sound in any other car I have owned..
1996 Ford Contour
1990 Olds 88 Delta
2003 Neon
2001 Buick Century
I hope the description seems accurate and that someone may be able to throw some ideas out that I could get checked. i am by no means a mechanic, there for I find it rather difficult to explain symptoms. Thank you in advance!!
Dave Did the dealer have another XB in the lot. Maybe you could test drive another 06 XB and see if it makes the same noise. It is possible it could be the sound of air rushing through the intake. I did think of hitting some used car lots and testing out 06 xb's. The dealer did not have one that i knew of, but perhaps they will get one in. thanks for the tip!Car Repair Talk's forum.
