Background:
A few days ago I veered during a tight turn to avoid roadkill (terrible instinctive reaction). Because the road was wet, my car spun into the ditch at around 35-40mph. The impact was definitely at the rear tires and bottom of the car. Vehicle is 2007 Camry.
Symptoms:
- Loud grinding/humming noise when at speeds 70-76 mph.
- Low noise at 40-50 mph (fixed after alignment).
- Faint noise under 30 mph (fixed after alignment).
- The grinding/humming occurs in a 2 second interval. It doesn't seem to be associated to turning.
- Noise harder to hear when the windows are rolled down (wind is louder).
- Very minor vibration from the bottom.
What I've Done:
- Wheel alignment. Rear left wheel was most out of alignment.
- Tire balancing.
- Tire rotation (Did not shift the noise, not noticeably at least).
Actions above eliminated low speed noise.
The mechanic who performed the wheel alignment checked the wheel bearing and said there's nothing wrong with it. I was hoping that was the culprit.
What are other potential causes? I would like to avoid taking my car to a repair shop due to bad experiences (Over paying for repairs that doesn't fix the problem). If it turns out it's something that can't be done by myself, I'll confide. Please help. Thanks! Where does the noise sound like it is coming from? If you are cruising as the noise is occurring and you put the transmission into neutral and let the vehicle coast, is the noise still there? Does the noise go away if you apply the brakes slightly? Noises are really hard to diagnose here in the forum. Where does the noise sound like it is coming from?
Floor, hard to pin point location. Feels like overall vibration sometimes.

Still there. Doesn't seem related to transmission.

Noise are still there if i apply brakes slightly. Really hard to tell you what is going on without actually being there to listen to it. Was anything damaged in the front of the vehicle. Maybe a problem with a CV axle?Car Repair Talk's forum.
