I have a 97 GMC Sonoma 2.2 4cl. I have a loud clanking noise coming from inside my catalytic converter. It is not rusted, has no holes and isn't clogged. Short of replacing it, what could cuase this and could the noise possibly be stopped by driving some ~2-3 in. screws into it, thus securing whatever is clanking? Would this hurt it? Thanks for any help.
Mike G replace it i agree....they really are not that expensive. You can clamp them on or if you know how to weld you can weld them on yourself and save a substanial hunk of change. or you could take it to a muffler shop.Car Repair Talk's forum.
