Ok I have a 96 Passat GLX VR6 2.8 ltr v6 with manual transmission and I just had to push start my car. When I tried to start it I just heard this spinning noise like the starter was working. Like a whirring sound but not turning over. Ok so I push started it. Immediately after I was driving home and this clicking kinda grinding noise was coming from the engine area. It sounded like something was about to fall off or something idk. Any ideas?
sounds like the starter drive mechanism may be shot. your best bet would be to pull the starter out and take it to a parts store to be bench tested, to make sure. theyll do this for free.Car Repair Talk's forum.
