I have a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant that I'm having a problem trying to figure out. When I'm making turns in the car (right/left doesnt matter) I hear loud squeaks. To give and analogy of the sound, If anyone has open up a very old door and the hinges are not oiled you know the sound it makes if you opened it. Like them old time spooky films when they would open the door of a hauted house.
The funny thing about this problem is it happens intermittentley. When it is extremely cold I get the noise, but when it is fairly warm I dont hear a thing.
I hope I described the problem in a manner that everybody could sort of picture dphyfer wrote:When it is extremely cold I get the noise, but when it is fairly warm I dont hear a thing.
When I say this I mean the weather. I don't mean to question anyones intelligence, but I know how one must be specific, and detailed in order to get an accurate response. grease contracts when it gets cold. u need a grease job but i dont think u can grease the factory joints because they dont have fittings. good job describing the noise. i know[i think] exactly what u mean. without grease fittings, that noise means some joint in your front suspenion is going out. u can try this. sometimes it helps locate the bad joint. have someone turn the steering wheel side 2 side so as 2 make it squeal. spray penatrating oil on each joint, 1 at a time. if the joint has a boot, try 2 get under the boot. if the sqeaking stops u found your bad joint. b sure 2 give each joint a chance 2 work the fliud in. if there is NO boot on any specific joint, suspect it first. the squeak is caused by no grease in the joint. there may b grease ON the joint but not in it. u cannot see the actual joint.[i hope] i hope this helps. keep us posted. I got my hands on some penetrating oil, and I began to spray where the sound seemed to be coming from, but to no avail. I finally gave up on what I thought was the problem and now am taking it down to the local shop for repair. The squeal is an annoyance. I mean other than that the car is fine, but that damn squeal just drives me nuts, and it is loud. I hate to make turns. I wish everywhere I went was just a straight road. good luck. let us know.
