Okay, so I posted a few weeks ago about the "clanking" noise coming from the front of my vehicle. I was told to check the CV boots and make sure they weren't torn, allowing dirt and whatnot into the joint. I did so, and realized that my vehicle is a RWD and therefore may not have CV joints in the front. Is this the case? Could my car not have CV joints in the front or do all cars have them in front and rear, regardless of drivetrain? Well anyway, I suspect the universal joints now. A number of reasons. One being the clank coming from the vehicle upon acceleration, as well as the fact that when letting off of the gas to apply the break, a heavier clank noise. Also, when shifting into reverse the vehicle jolts and a single loud clank is heard. When putting vehicle into drive, a clank is heard, but the vehicle doesn't jolt. Am I correct on this assumption? I am prepared to buy a new U joint for the front and have my dad's friend or a mechanic replace it. Let me know, thanks!! A rwd car will not have cv joints in the front. I am no mechanic but had to change a uv joint on my old blazer and checked to see if it was bad by having someone rock the vehicle while I watched the joint and saw a lot of play in the joint. Was it difficult to change? I'm thinking of doing it tomorrow, but would hate to start it and not be able to finish it because I have to drive it to school tomorrow. What all is involved? What is the Year Make and Modle of your vehicle so we can help you better.
Every vehicle is different. It is easy to change the CV joint on a Caviler where it is harder to change it on a cadilliac CTS.
The year make and modle will be helpfull.
Sorry GM, I figured people would see the post a few posts below this one about the clank noise.
